How to make Valentine’s Day special in the age of COVID: Our sexy itinerary (lockdown friendly)

Victoria Scott - 28 January 2021

Good evening,

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, you might find yourself struggling to think of ways to make it special. Whether you’ve been in a relationship for a long time, or you’re just starting to get to know someone, coming up with ideas for this most romantic of days can be a challenge. And this year it’s especially difficult because of lockdown restrictions, as we can’t rely on those old faithfuls of a nice restaurant, an intimate bar, or a trip to the cinema.

But don’t worry, if you’re coming up blank this year, I’ve put together a Valentine’s itinerary to help you keep the flame alive.

If you’re lucky enough to be locked-down with your partner, you’ll have the pleasure of waking up next to them on Valentine’s Day. If you’re operating a long-distance or virtual relationship right now, your day might look a little different. But that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all the fun. Everything in today’s itinerary can be done remotely or virtually - we’ll include tips for making this work as we go along.

How to make Valentine’s Day special in the age of COVID

Morning sex

Did you know that there are numerous health benefits to morning sex? Some say it can boost your energy as effectively as a cup of strong coffee. There are also many reasons why the morning can be the most satisfying time of the day to have sex. Your hormone levels peak in the morning, which increases libido and helps the sex last longer. It will also get you and your partner off on the best foot for the day, as it activates oxytocin (a.k.a. the ‘cuddle hormone’) which helps us bond and feel close to one another. Do you often feel stressed in the morning? Then this could be the answer, as sex releases endorphins to make you feel happier and more relaxed. I could go on and on, but I think you see where I’m going with this.

One of the best ways to start Valentine’s Day has got to be with morning sex. Now I know, we all feel a bit gross first thing in the morning. So take the time to use the bathroom, brush your teeth, fix your hair, and ditch the comfy PJs for something more sexy. If you’re operating remotely, check out our guide to virtual sex.

There are several ways you can make your morning sex special. It’s often more intimate - in the evening, we might have had a few drinks, put some make-up on, and got all dressed up for a date - but in the morning you’re just you, and this can lead to a more intense and enjoyable experience for both partners. With this in mind, take your time over it. Try mutual masturbation to get each other going, and use this opportunity to get to know each other’s bodies better.

This might be the perfect opportunity to unwrap your first Valentine’s Day gifts, too. Why not treat your partner to a new toy to try out this morning? For her, try the Rocks-Off Bamboo Sundust, a cute little 10-speed bullet vibrator. For him, I recommend the Rocks-Off Falex Prostate Massager, a tool designed to help him reach a mind-blowing climax.

If you’re the kind of person who needs breakfast before they can do anything in the morning, why not add that into the mix? Share some chocolate-dipped strawberries, flaky croissants and whipped cream. Playing with sweet treats can enhance the sensual experience.

Breakfast in bed

Breakfast in bed

If you’re not already full up from all the strawberries, treat yourselves to breakfast in bed. You can prepare this meal as a surprise for your partner, or you can enjoy cooking together. If you’re going virtual, agree on a recipe in advance, and cook and eat together via your screen.

Personally, I love the combination of soft, indulgent scrambled eggs with rich smoked salmon and creamy avocado - but maybe you’re more into sweet french toast with crispy bacon and blueberries. Or you can go down a healthier route with an exotic fruit salad and a cup of herbal tea. Whatever food you fancy, the key is to enjoy it together.

A romantic walk

Some of us find we have a lot of free time during lockdown - we might be working less, and of course have fewer social commitments. Others are run off their feet, with home-schooling, remote working and domestic chores all rolling into one. Whatever your experience, it’s important to make some time for yourself and your relationship. Valentine’s Day is the ideal opportunity to do that, so if you can, book some time into your calendar to just enjoy the day.

Taking a romantic walk together will refresh and energise you, and it’s something you can do at a distance if you’re not in a household bubble together. If you live near a park or nature spot, enjoy a leisurely stroll together. There are countless studies that tell us how getting back to nature can have huge benefits for our mental health, so if you’re feeling down or frustrated, do give this a try.

A romantic walk

Of course, walking is great exercise, too, and like all other exercise it releases endorphins which naturally lift your mood and make you feel more energised. If you’re counting your steps, try this budget fitness watch and step counter to keep track of your exercise progress - and get a matching one as a gift for your partner to use.

Picnic lunch

Picnics are super romantic, but February is not likely to bless us with ideal picnic weather. Don’t let that stop you though! Make some space in your house to spread a blanket out, invest in a cute wicker hamper, and put together a selection of all your favourite foods.

Up the sensuality by feeding each other little tidbits, and enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine or alcohol-free fizz (like this 0% Prosecco from Freixenet). Your picnic can easily be enjoyed virtually, too - you can even gift each other customised hampers that can be safely delivered to the doorstep and opened on the day.

Sexy afternoon massage

It’s time to relax now, so close the curtains, put on some chilled-out music, and give your partner the massage they deserve. Make it extra-special with our massage products - try our aphrodisiac oils and candles.

If you’re not sure where to start or you’re worried about hurting your partner, watch a video like this Basic Swedish Back Massage Techniques tutorial. There are plenty to choose from on YouTube.

For a virtual experience, you could buy each other massage wands to enjoy. Toys like the Rocks-Off Oriel Wand Vibrator can be used for muscle massage too!

Take it in turns to gently massage each other, and then, if you’re feeling it, move it to the bedroom. Vice has reported that afternoon sex is ‘the best thing to have come out of the lockdown’ and I’m inclined to agree. What better way to spend your PM?

Some partners struggle to synchronise their libidos; one might feel frisky in the mornings, while the other gets turned on more at night. For such couples, the afternoon might be the perfect compromise. Many people feel most energised in the afternoon - it can be hard to get going in the morning (if you’re not a morning person), and most of us are worn out by the evening - so this Valentine’s Day afternoon could be your optimal window for really great sex.

Spice things up with some different positions, or surprise your partner with another tantalizing gift. I recommend the Rocks-Off EveryGirl Rabbit Vibrator for her and the Rocks-Off Ibex Vibrating Butt Plug And Cock Ring Kit for him.

Evening cocktails and movies

Sharing new activities is a great way to bond with your partner, so why not take part in an online cocktail masterclass? You can do this whether you’re physically together or dating virtually. Plus you get to drink the fruits of your labour at the end of the class.

Evening cocktails and movies

If that’s not your thing, settle down to enjoy a home cinema experience. Get cosy under a blanket, pop some corn, and enjoy one of these romantic classics. Again, it’s easy to recreate this virtually - just pick a movie, synchronise your starting time, and keep your tablet or phone nearby so you can see and hear your date’s reactions to the film.

A night time bath

Sharing a hot, bubbly bath is a great way to wind down at the end of the day. Light some candles, get out some aromatherapy oils, and put on your favourite relaxing music to get you in a chilled-out mood. If you’re going virtual, try this useful bath caddy to balance your tablet or phone while you bathe (just make sure you don’t drop it in the water!).

If you feel like making your bath even more sensual, get the Rocks Off RO - Duet Remote Controlled Vibrator - it’s a 100% waterproof vibrator with a remote control.

Orgasming underwater can be extremely pleasurable, but going all the way in the bath comes with inherent practical challenges - be careful to stay safe, don’t let the water level get too high, and try to avoid spillage! There are some positions that work especially well in the tub, but do whatever is best for you.

You can either enjoy this whole itinerary in one day, or pick and choose the bits that work for you and your schedule. Most important of all, remember to make your partner feel special and loved - that’s what it’s all about.
